I took home a 1999 9-3 convertable yesterday for a day-long test drive and fell in love. I have a few questions that hopefully you Saab enthusiasts may be able to answer before I actually buy the car. The car: 1999 9-3 Convertable (base model), Midnight Blue, Beige leather, black top, walnut wood trim (apparantly the original owner had this added), 45,500 miles. I haven't committed yet, but I did put a deposit down on the car to hold it. The dealer wanted $24,000 but I was able to get him down to $21,500 by pointing out an advertising error on their part. After I left the dealership last night I found out that Edmund's True Market Value of this vehicle is just under $19,000, and I'm guessing a $500 adjustment for the wood trim is in order? Is TMV what I should demand that I pay? I've never tried to purchase a car using the TMV as a negotiating point. Is it valid? Also, there's some things I'd like to have done to it beforehand, such as a walnut shift knob, center armrest, cd changer, and the 9-3 audio upgrade. The thing I'm curious about most is this $550 audio upgrade. I understand it is the same system they put in 9-3 SE's. Is it worth the price? I don't like aftermarket head units because they ruin interior aesthetics and I'm hoping this is an easy way to get a little more power of the stereo. I would greatly appreciate any feedback you may have. I would love to be this Saab's new owner, I just need a bit of pre-purchase guidance! Thank you!
