Can any of you knowledgeable folk give me an idea as to how serious/expensive this transmission problem is: I have a 1991 Saab 9000 with a manual transmission. If I select reverse and slowly let out the clutch, the engine speed drops, but the car doesn't move, as if it is fighting against itself. The transmission seems to be in first gear even though the gearshift is in neutral, so I was able to limp home when the problem happened. Selecting the other gears doesn't change the gear ratio, if I can even get it into gear. I haven't tried too may forward gears while the engine was running, because the car started violently lurching when the problem started. A grinding/crunching noise also seems to be coming from the transmission, but only when the car is moving. The noise happens both when the clutch is in or out. Thank you for your comments. Any recommendations for service near Bartlett, IL would also be appreciated. Walt Kienzle
