Again, because you've failed to provide model/year info, all we can give is the most general of advice. When you replace the pads, you will have to somehow reset the adjuster. This is usually done by backing off the screw, then screwing in until it's just about to bite. So to answer your question, 'replacing the pads alone' won't be enough, since you can't replace the pads without resetting the mechanism. -- Grunff
