Rest asure, the 9-5 is an even safer car, than the 9000! The 9-5's safety is a further development, based on the safety of the 9000. Here in Europe, we have EuroNCAP, which is crashtesting all vehicles on the street. The Saab 9-5 (together with the Volvo S80) is the safest car they've ever tested, no matter the class. Still here in 2002 and the test was done back in 1999!! Heck, the Saab 9-5 even passed the sidecollisiontest without sideairbags (wasn't avaiable in the 9-5 back then). If you REALLY wanna clear any doubts, you should go to a dealer and buy the book about the Saab 9-5 development "Saab 9-5 - A Personal Story" by Anders Tunberg. In the book, there's everything you'd like to know about the safety-developments of the car. After reading then book, you'll KNOW that the Saab people have gone out of their way to give you probably the safest car on the road! Cheers!
