Although my experience with SAAB's is limited (i've only had a 9000 Aero and always run it on SAAB oil), my previous car (an Alfa 155) could drink a litre of Mobil 1 0w/40 every 1000 miles. However this improved to about 1500 miles when I changed to the cheaper 15w/50, and after I changed to Fiat Lubrificanti HPX (a semi-synth) I only had to top it up twice between 6000 mile oil services. There were no oil leaks. I know Alfa's (just like Volkswagens) like to consume oil, but it is a good example of how using a thin oil, on a worn engine, CAN lead to increased consumption. I will admit that I have never had to top up my 9000 between services, and I didn't know that SAAB oil is Mobil 1 rebranded. So Mobil 1 would be a good choice for a 9000 Aero, but then again I didn't ever say it wouldn't. As an aside, looking under the hood of a new 9-3 at the weekend. I noticed that the recommended oil for it is "Mobil 1" Also what are we going to call the new 9-3 here? NG9-3? Any suggestions? Cheers! --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
