Friends and Saab lovers, I have the sad duty of reporting the death of my Saab. Last evening, I returned from work and parked up as usual. I got into the house, gave my wife a kiss and then had to look out of the window to see what all the fuss was about. I thought to myself, "I'm sure I didn't park up *that* close" and then realised that my neigbour's car behind was sitting into the back of my car up on the pavement. Oh, boy ... A Peugeot 106, obviously speeding, had lost control and crashed into a line of parked cars. How a 106 can move the cumulative weight of around 3 tonnes of parked cars 7-8 feet up the road, I don't know. The good thing is that no-one was injured in the incident. From talking to my insurers, the Saab is most likely to be an insurance "total-loss", since it is more that 10 years old ... they just seem to write them off anyway at that age. The damage is a rear shunt around the off-side. The boot is crumpled in and will not open, both rear wheel-arches are buckled, the driver's door is difficult to open & shut and the bonnet is off-screw. The fuel line is obviously kinked, since the car will no longer fire up. See her at http://pjgh.go.dyndns.org/saab/index.html and lay some flowers :) I'll display the blood & guts when the photos get developed. What I would like to know is, (I'll also see what the engineer's report says) is the car likely to be repairable? Since Saab's park in reverse, does a rear-end shove damage the gearbox? I will have the chance to buy the car back from the insurers, if it is "written off" and I most likely will to get all the good stuff off it - Aero alloys, leather seats, etc. Does anyone in the West Yorkshire, UK area have a classic turbo, Aero or S they want to sell me? Keep on Saabing, Paul 1985 900i 16V 1989 900 Turbo S (looking graceful, even in death) http://pjgh.go.dyndns.org/saab/index.html
