Subject: stereo problems -- 1984 900

I'm having an ongoing problem with my CD/AM/FM unit. After installation, it worked fine for a couple of months, but then slowly begin to cut out on an increasingly consistent basis, until it just blinks on and off non-stop. At first I thought it was fuses, and I tried a more powerful fuse but that didn't work. I repeatedly cleaned the connector (detachable face), but to no avail. I finally exchanged the unit for a new one (Sony for a Pioneer) and have the same problem. My friend thinks it's the way it's hooked up to the fuse (?), or maybe the alternator. All other electrical system-related items work fine, and my alternator checked out OK about a year ago. Battery doesn't drain, and the car is in perfect running condition. This might be kind of a general question, but has anyone else had problems like this on an OG 900 and found a solution? I.e., stereo system cutting out repeatedly, to the point where you can't even listen to it? Possible things to check? Thanks, -jw -- 1984 900 S hatchback
