Before adjusting, you should make sure there are NO defects. Turbo unit should be OK and the waste gate ust not be sticky, to name a few. When your pressure gauge only gets half into yellow, do you have the feeling the engine lacks power? If not, then I would not bother adjusting, but look into the gauge of the instrument panel. Anyway, if you decide toadjust, here's what you should do: You need a separate pressure gauge (range 0 - 2 bar would be allright) and a length of hose. Connect it on the connector of the inlet manifold and position the gauge inside the car. Drive the car to warm it up to normal operating temperature and then check the pressure: 1. Drive the car in 3rd gear (manual tranny) or position 1 (automatic) at an engine speed of less than 1500 rpm. 2. Accelerate to full throttle, pedal right down to the floor, then as the engine reaches 3000 rpm apply the brakes (throttle still pressed down) and keep the engine at 3000 rpm to put the car under full load and note the max pressure on the gauge. I would advise to have someone assist you with this. Keep the test as short as possible to spare the brakes! If the reading is between 0.66 and 0.74 bar, it is within specifications (exact value is 0.70 bar) Otherwise, adjustment is done as follows. a. remove the diaphragm housing cover of the charge pressure regulator fitted to the turbo unit (first remove heatshield and exhaust pressure line) b. you will see a spring seating and a lock nut: slacken the nut and adjust the tension of the spring by rotating the spring seating: - clockwise DEcreases charging pressure by 0.04 bar per 1/4 turn - counter-clockwise INcreases charging pressure by 0.04 bar per 1/4 turn In this way you can calculate the number of 1/4 turns, required to reach the correct setting. Tighten the locknut and put everything back together again. Repeat steps 1. and 2. to verify correct setting. The procedure is documented in the Haynes manual Saab 99&900 MY 1979-1983. Once again, do this only if you suspect no other problems than just a too low charging pressure! Hope this helps!
