If you can remove the DIN item that is above the ashtray, this will aid in the removal. As far as I can remember there are two sprung clips at the top of the ash tray, making sure you've removed the tray first. Try and push these clips down from above and pull on the ash tray. It's a bit fiddly and awkward but once you've done it you'll wonder what all the hassle was for. Check the link to see the order in which mines setup.
