"If you > can't fix it then you don't deserve to drive it". I don't see where Grunff wrote "If you can't fix..."; are you perhaps paraphrasing what you think he's saying rather than quoting? In any case, it's a case of "know the machine". Looks like the original poster was lied to, and is basically screwed through no fault of his own; if it were me, I'd get nasty with the folks who owned the dealership at the time the work was supposed to have been done but wasn't (if it realy was claimed to have been done). However, I think Grunff's statements about 'Know your machine and how to take care of it' are very valid. If the owner *knew* to ask about the belt, that also would have prevented the failure. The event that (may have?) kicked off the failure process is allegedly a dealer not doing work they claimed to, but not knowing or caring enough about what the car needs, certainly contributed. > As far as Mr. Cornelio's situation goes, I hope he can get Saab to back down > from their silly attitude. It will only damage their reputation further. How did *saab* do anything wrong? If anyone the dealership would be liable. > If > we're expected to get our hands greasy changing timing belts and the like, > then why are we expected to pay Saab's service network for their existence as > well? I still never saw him say that. I saw 'know your machine', not 'do all your own work'. Dave Hinz
