Salutations:
I love when this happens in a newsgroup.. OK - here's mine..
It was a dark, stormy and moonless September night on the old
TransCanada highway between Belle St. Anne and Grand Falls when my 1984
900 with the donor a-series motor and I pulled into the Blue Moon Gas
Bar/Diner.. They man behind the pump asks to check the oil (you know,
way back when someone also asked if you wanted you window washed as part
of the regularly priced fill-up?) .. I digress.. After the obligatory
walk around to proudly show everybody how the forward leaning hood
worked - he pops up and says:
"M'Dieu - is that some sort of helicopter engine in there man?"..
I smile, listen carefully to see if there is again something wrong with
the muffler and figure he's pulling my leg when his partner pops up and
says
"..naw Maurice - it's the exactly same one on Paul's Cessna"..
One of the cool things about owning a SAAB when they were forwarding
comparatively exotic technology for the day in North America was that
you got to tell folks at gas stations about them every so often..
Hey - some swish pair of after market hydraulic motor mounts arrived at
my door today from my Continental brothers for $70.00(USD) each.. Did
the local Dealer for the lower rear engine engine mount for $85.00(CND)
and picked up a rebuilt water pump from Cardone for another $89.00(CND).
The UPS people again beat $50(CND) out of me for customs shakedowns and
walking it across a warehouse at Pearson Airport. 'Free-Trade' my flat
arse.. My Livery man tells me it's might run four hours to swap out the
mounts and replace the pump. Beware fellow 9000 owners - letting those
lower hydraulic motor mounts go waiting for the Christmas bonus is a
very tricky business..
On the whole, I think I'm getting out of this relatively cheaply
though.. I bought for $1,800(CND) and made 40,000km with it so far..
your pal
