That's a bit new though ... perhaps in the Saab 9-5 vs Volvo V40/S70 debate :) The question was a Saab 9000 vs Volvo 850 Estate. I would still consider the Vauxhall Carlton (say, GS 3000i or their CD model) to be in the running against these two cars. The Volvo is certainly a powerful beast and as Tim Kemp said, packing a bathroom into the back of a Volvo estate is easier than the Saab 9000. Simon, it *does* make a difference that you're in the UK :) The Volvo is a wardrobe on wheels ... a poor man's big car ... "just become a Solicitor" car ... whatever. The Saab has style - that's the one thing Volvo has tried really hard to get (and IMO succeeded recently with the V40, et al). You can get a full leather, alloy wheeled, cruise-controlled, air conditioned, turbo-charged model from either Saab or Volvo in the 9000 or 850 but you only get style in one of those cars :) ... and one of those models is a hell of a lot cheaper - check http://www.autotrader.co.uk - say, 1500 to 3000 UKP for a Saab 9000 CSE or 3000 to 5000 UKP for the Volvo 850 T5. I suppose it's down to what you want to spend. Paul 1985 900i 16V 1989 900 Turbo S http://pjgh.go.dyndns.org/saab/index.html
