The vaccum pump will come on if the foot brake is applied, that might explain why it makes noise in drive and not in neutral. Try pumping the brake pedal and see what happens with the noise. SAI pump should only come on for up to 90 seconds after startup in moderate temps. Couple of other items in that area. The shutoff valve for the SAI system is there. This larger plastic valve fails and cause a burbling noise as air is sucked into the exhaust system through the check valve (if SAI is fitted. Can't remember about the turbos). Also will cause excessive NOx emissions. How about a bad headlight wiper motor. The shaft gets pushed thru the back of the motor housing during minor parking lot bumps. The motor keeps running because the shaft doesn't move to hit shutoff contact. Do the headlight wipers work? Good luck, Steve Crowe, ex-Saab Master Tech Harpers Ferry, WV scrowenopsamink.net
