Subject: advice on buying an '85 SPG

Hey folks I've had my heart set on finding myself an old diesel passat wagon for some time, but there is quite of number of older 900s for sale in my area and I'm being very tempted to take the plunge. I've found an '85 SPG for $850 CAN and I have a couple questions. Milage on the car is 275,000km. What problems should I be looking/listening for on a test drive? What kind of milage are people getting with their old 900s, especially 16v Turbos of this vintage. The last Saab I was looking at was an '82, and the owner was getting 20mpg highway. That was a bit too much of a guzzler for my taste, do the 16v engines do any better? How does the turbo factor in? I'd like to replace the wheels on the car (I never liked the SPG rims) and I'm wondering if they are a unique size which might be hard to find. Can I pull wheels off any 900? thanks much in advance for any advice. seeyame Craig
