Subject: Re: crankcase ventilation

Thanks for the advice... As far as I know (I'm not the first owner, I'm #3 on a short list) the car wasn't ever pushed really hard, even by me. Enough to get the bats out... but not hurting. I'd like to know how to do the tests you mentioned, Grunff, (dry/wet and leakdown) if you wouldn't mind sending the details.... I'm familiar with the 'usual' compression test but don't know if what I normally do is wet or dry! The possibility of a blocked screen outlet from the valve cover sounds like the 'cheap' fix I'd like it to be, Robert, and I'll certainly investigate that further, and replace the 'goo' gasket in place now with something decent while I'm at it. There does seem to be a seepage of oil from the actual crankcase ventilation tube connection (the large diameter one) at the valve cover, so this might be a pointing finger. The next sunny day in the snow (we have snow already) will see the cover off and cleaned (carb cleaner might work well) and I'll let y'all know the results of that... Thanks again.
