Subject: Re: Check Engine Light on a 97 900S

After following this news group for almost two years, and in view of my own experience with my 1996 900SE, I think this is one of those famous Saab quirks. In my own case, the check engine light came on (and stayed on) for no apparent reason, and without any other signs of problems. There were repeated visits to the dealer, which started with the suggestion that I must not have properly tightened up the gas cap (i.e. that the problem really was with ME, and not with the vehicle). No computer trouble codes showed up, and we went through several efforts to fix the problem, culminating in the replacement of an oxygen sensor on a trial basis. A new oxygen sensor didn't fix the problem. Ultimately, the dealer did something to the wiring harness, and that seems to have taken care of the problem (assuming, of course, that the REAL fix wasn't to disconnect the check engine light!) My own theory is that this is a design defect, and it's very annoying.
