I encountered the prone-to-breaking starter lockout last month. Drove 88 900T normally into driveway one night. Next morning couldn't turn the ignition key. As if fairies had called during the night and changed the lock. No amount of waggling or the spare key or 90% of key breaking brute strength was going to do it. Local Saab fixer came to the house and dismantled the centre console until the ignition lock casting was revealed. There are little metal cams/levers deep in there which do the locking and they had somehow got disorganised. It was easy to reset them but since it was not obvious why it had happened he replaced the unit with one from his secondhand stock. That's the first time for me in 4 old 900s over a period of 16 years. Chas --
