The reason the SAAB dealer didnt change the belts is that it was brought in for the 35K well past that mileage. But service ticket shows "customers requests 35k service" and manual shows SAAB servce stamp 35k done. Of course it would no longer have been done FREE under warranty, but should have been done, and failing that dealer would normally ( this by logic & common practice) put 'customer advised, declined service' on ticket just to cover their butt in case of disaster a few miles down the road. But that was not noted on ticket. So dealer will claim customer *was* advised, previous owner will say they were not. So I have to take both to court. I incuded SAAB because where if not a SAAB authorized service, should one expect them to KNOW and make CLEAR the dire need for a replacement before 'too late'. Otherwsie what is the value of a network of authorized centers? Yes, of course informed owners are the best case, and of course I was not aware of this issue as Simon points out and could only trust the service history. And as it was a *SAAB* service history they may need to answer I think, esp. when current dealer says "we don't have anything to do with SAAB." So let the judge sort it out. No lawyers - it is small claims - 5k limit will just cover it. Either the onwers misrepresented, or the dealer was negligent in the service, or SAAB service network is just a scam for higher prices & shoddy work. Perverse coda & connection: - My grandfather became an Oldsmobile dealer in 1937 - well before the current SAAB USA pres. was conceived, much less employed as auto executrix.
