Subject: Re: recent former bmw/audi owners?

I switched from a BMW 325i to aSaab 9000 and have never regretted the switch. I am no won my second 9000. The BMW may have been a bit more responsivbe in curves at higg speeds but the ride was harder too. It was definitely more spartanly finished then my 1996 CSE and, although it carried a luxury price tag, didn;t feel like a luxury car inside while the Saabs do. For highway driving I like the Saab as well or better than the BMW. For service costs I think they ar about the same. As far as build and longevity are concerned again I thik it is a tossup. My last BMW went a hair under 200,000 miles before I "retired" it because it was going to need $1500 in exhaust work and another $1000 in work on the interior. My current Saab is at 95K sono way to compare. I am convinced that in real world safety conditions the Saab is the hands down winner. I walked away from a collision with a New Jersey Barrier (one of those long cement things) that I slid into swerving to avoid a turkey on the road which led to hiting a patch of black ice. I literally got out of the car and brushed myself off with no no injuries ecxcept a ring ear for awhile from banging my head on the side of the car. The rear axle was broken, the crivers side door was sashed in, the windshield was shattered and, the passenger comaprtment LOOKED LIKE NEW! The cops were amazed and noted that there had been a lot of accidents there in the past several days and NO ONE else had walked away. I went ou ttwo days later and bought my current Saab. I am happy to be back in the Saab fold after many years away (former 96 and 99 owner). Ted Harris Resource Strategy Henniker, New Hampshire
