I have the same problem with the display in my 1999 9-3. It's apparently a pretty common problem, and it comes and goes on mine. On long trips it mostly goes away except a random line or two. I've checked the plug in the back, but it didn't make it any better. I suspect it's just a flaw in the unit. I don't know if any of the newer years are any better. My buddy has a 2000 9-3 with the additional computer functions/buttons and hasn't had any trouble so far. I checked with my dealer for a replacement, but at around $580 dollars I can suffer with what I have now. Some day I'll get the courage to pull it completely apart and fiddle with LCD's connector to the circuit board. If it's the type of ribbon connector I think it might be, it's very possible it becomes lightly corroded causing the gibberish. Gary
