Subject: Re: Washer barely spraying
My 1995 900S has had it's share of washer troubles. From the symptoms you
describe, it sounds like the washer pump if weak. Mine did the same thing a
few years back, One washer pump is used for both the front and rear washers.
By applying voltage one way, the pump spins in a direction to send fluid to
the front windshield and headlights. By reversing the polarity to the pump,
this same pump spins the other way and pumps fluid to the read window. It is
a GM part, and cost me about $50 at my Saab dealer for the pump. I replaced
it myself in about 30 minutes. It's located at the base of the resevoir, and
is accessible by partially removing the plastic inner-fender splash shield,
if you wish to try it yourself.
Another problem area with the washer system in this car are the in-line
check valves. These "L" and "T" shaped fittings are plumbed-in throughout
the system and tend to fail frequently. The symptoms of these failing is
usually poor flow from one nozzle, or weeping from the headlight washer jets
when the resevoir is near full.
Hope this helps,
Jim M
