Subject: Newcomer to the NG and a few questions... (Long)

Hi everyone, I'm Virgil, nice to meet you all! I purchased my 1993 Saab 900S one month ago and I love it. It's the first Saab I've ever owned and I was amazed to find one in such *perfect* condition at such a low price ($3000.00 US). It had 150k miles on it when I purchased it, but if the entire engine died, I swear I would drop a new on in it without thinking twice. Also, I'm thrilled to finally meet a group of auto owners that remind me of when I used to drive an old VW Beetle. It's so nice to get a wave from another Saab driver, simply due to the fact that we drive the same car... you don't see many Honda Accord drivers waving to each other, do ya? LOL. All in all, I'm so glad I found this car and I'm very happy to meet you all. A newbie post wouldn't be complete without a few newbie questions so here goes... I'm very grateful in advance to anyone who might shed some light on these problems. First off, the engine won't shut down if I have the brake pedal depressed. The first symptom that this was going to be an issue came when I started the car one cold morning and the "anti-lock brake" light and the "brake" came on and remained on for 5-10 seconds. After the lights went off, I assumed that brake fluid hadn't completely circulated to the sensors since it was a cold start but now it happens every time I start the car, warm or not. There is plenty of brake fluid in the reservoir, so I'm stumped. Essentially, I can put the tranny in reverse, turn the key to "Off", remove the key from the ignition, and the engine runs until I release the brake pedal. Any thoughts? Next question: the air conditioner button and the air recirculation button will not stay depressed. I push them in, they pop right back out. I read on www.saabnet.com that the buttons can be removed, cleaned, and re-installed as a temporary fix but I wanted a second opinion. Also, my turn signal lever won't stay in the upright position (i.e. right turn). I've heard that this is somewhat common, but does it entail buying an entire turn signal assemble? Finally, does anyone know of a listing of junkyards or aftermarket companies that specialize in Saab parts? I would love to find a business that sells used parts such as: rear ashtray, seat release knobs (the knob you lift to pull the back of the seat forward), side view mirror motors, floor mats, and any other items you guys think might assist in repairing the above mentioned problems. When I drove VW's, I always bought from Rocky Mountain Motorworks and I was wondering if anyone knew of a similar company for Saabs. Thanks so much in advance for any advice you guys may be able to offer and I apologize for the wordy post. I'm glad to see you all here and, as I learn more about my car, I promise I'll try to answer any questions you may have in the future. Cheers, and I'll see you on the road... Sincerely, Virgilturtle 1993 Saab 900S
