While the base oils should be perfectly compatable, the additive packages will be different, and as such, should not be mixed if you can avoid it. Throw an extra quart/litre of your favor motor oil in the car before going on any long drives. If you need to top off, by all means make sure you have the proper amount of oil in you engine, but try to stick with one type, both in the engine, and from oil change to oil change. Different brands of oil will cause your seals to swell differently, possibly causing a leak.
