I never had a Stag (just a Spitfire) but I think the main problem was with cooling, water pumps and head gaskets. It's notoriety was considerable. A great many Stags and possibly many of the survivors had the Triumph V8 removed and replaced with what we in the UK know as the Rover V8 (3.5) but which I think was originally the small block Buick.
