Salutations: Now that's interesting - I define a long road trip as anything over 3,000km and often make 1,100km runs from Halifax to Montreal (Canada) in a long day.. I don't usually need more than a liter the whole trip (usually before I head back).. It's one of the reasons I try to own SAAB's - they can run as long (longer) than I can and they get up in the morning for more..
