Just as a random datapoint, my '98 9-3 SE suffered a similar fault with the alarm recently (the tilt sensor under the handbrake was eventually diagnosed as the cause). In desperation at 0-dark-30 when the alarm went off *again* because I'd forgotten to reset it to DOORS-ONLY, I went thru the manual and the fuse diagram only to find that not only would disabling the alarm result in the loss of much *other* function (e.g. dashboard lighting, central locking as I recall), but you also need to pull *multiple* fuses to disable the various components (e.g. immobiliser, door etc).
