> 6. What's your bottom line? Do you like the service ... Well, we don't get much of a choice with Saabs anyway, do we? Honestly, I could do without it and would prefer the cell phone/nav system set-up. But then again, one's got to remember that built-in cell phones with other premium brands are utter and total rip-offs, as are nav systems. I had a Jag with both installed, and it added a $4k or so to the price - ridiculous, especially considering the hook-up is for one specific cell phone type that is guaranteed to have you begging for the ability to upgrade it within a year, and ther nav system just sticks to major streets and leads you smack into every traffic congestion in the area... nav systems cry for application of fuzzy logic (any VCs reading this newsgroup contact me for details... :-) What cars really need is the Bluetooth or even 802.11 stuff, and I look forward to Saab offering it, and especially to the ability to upgrade my '02 Saab to take advantage of it... > 1. How quick are they to connect come on the line? Are they > knowledgeable with your location and directions ... They connect relatively quickly, but it does depend on time of day. As to directions, I've never really asked for them real-time. Which is a good thing - the directiosn they gave me sufficed to get me to where I intended to go. > 2. Do they stay on the line with you for any length of time... I'd say yes, they stay with you until your issue is resolved, and I never got the impression they hint at having helped you enough already... > 3. Do you always connect or are there times when you are out of their > service area? Is the sound quality workable? Always have connected. The sound quality is good, but it's the operator who occasionally have trouble understanding you - as is usual for hands-free sets... > 5. Do you use the phone service? Is the voice-dialing really workable > versus a built-in phone with, for instance, speed dial? Can you > receive calls? Yes on all counts. You just have to speak clearly and in a relaxed manner. Try to hurry things up and the system won't understand a single thing you say. Unforunately, it is incompatible with voicemail systems - once the connection is established, you can't insert * or other numbers... All in all - GM can continue to offer Onstar, and I'd susbscribe to parts of it, but give me Bluetooth and the ability to have flexibility in my choice of cell and nav hook-ups... ...pablo
