Solid rubber mounts give much less engine movement, but transmit more vibration to the car. And the same reason they put a crappy rubber coupler in the shift linkage on both 9000s and later C900s. All cars are a compromise between drivability and smoothness/quietness. By far the *best* handling 9000 I've ever driven is owned by a friend of mine, who replaced all the bottom mounts with solid ones, and filled in the top mount. More vibration, but if you don't mind that, it's a much nicer drive. I think the top mount allows far too much movement, and because of that, is very prone to cracking. Once it cracks a little, the engine moves a lot more, which speeds up the failure of the bottom mounts. Please note that I'm not endorsing the product - I think it's a good one, but I think you can achieve the same thing with a few inches of stiff hose and a tube of PU. -- Grunff
