Intermittent heat is not normally a sign of a failing valve - the valve is a simple thing, which usually fails by leaking. I would suspect air in the system. You say no air, have you force-bled the heater core? But, if you want to change it, it's pretty straightforward. Much easier to access from underneath. Remove the center console and the kick panel, and you'll see what to do next. -- Grunff
