Subject: Re: Towing with a SAAB 9-5?

Rob; I haven't towed anything with my Aero Wagon (nor do I plan to), but I have towed lots of trailers and boats, of all sizes and types, up to a 9500 pound SeaRay boat/ trailer combo. I strongly recommend that you do NOT try to launch any boat near 2000 lbs with a FWD car. Launching is actually ok - it is the recovery that will be traumatic. With the front wheels unloaded and facing uphill on a wet slippery boat ramp, with gravel and other debris to complicate things, you will eventually encounter the day when you will either be unable to move the rig up the ramp, or worse yet, you will launch the car as well as the boat into the water. My recommendation for towing any boat other than a Jet Ski or similar watercraft: a mid or full sized 4x4 pickup or SUV. The bigger the load, the longer the wheelbase. In other words, don't try to haul 5000 pounds behind a Jeep Cherokee, even if the factory says you can. Sorry - I hope you had a Merry Christmas.
