Subject: 2000 SAAB 95 Base Model 40K mile service

Hi: I just gave my SAAB 95 for a 40K service. The 36 K mile service was dont at 35K miles and I thought that was major service in itself. I was told during my 35K mile service that my brake pads were wearing out and that I had about 5mm left but should be good until 40K service (oil change plus rotation). I have prepaid maintainence or free upto 36K mils. I am told now that my brake pads have to be replaced ( which is ok as I figured that the car is heavy and the brakes are worn) and my rotors are also at the point where a replacement is recommended. I do only moderate driving but we live on a hilly area meaning that there are winding up and down roads. I do more city than highway and I am a decent driver ( my previous car was an Infinity G20 on which I did not change the brake pads till 60 K and drove with the original clutch till 150K -stickshift ) and treat my SAAB well. I have a couple of questions for former owners a) Does the brake pads wear often in Saab 95. The dealer told me that the pads are softer with the newer SAAB's b) Is it common to change the rotor so quickly ? I am going to be spending about $650 + tax for the 40K service and the brake/rotor Job ($550). Am I being ripped ? Please advice Thanks Bharath
