Any increase in revs while accelerating will cause the gauge to rise up the white zone. Letting off the accelerator pedal, dropping the clutch or hitting the brake will cause the needle to drop but, but not back to the bottom. It should be a much slower descent. My turbo (albeit '89 900) is off the road at the moment, but I'm sure it took around 3 or more seconds to drop right back if you hit the clutch and let off the accelerator pedal at full boost. If you get red-zones, you should be able to slip a gear change without the needle dropping out of the yellow unless you're my father-in-law :) It sounds plain dangerous to get a red-zone boost and then lose it when changing gear. I think you need to get it back to the dealer or to a mechanic who knows how to setup turbochargers correctly. It really does sound like you've got a fault here Gary.
