A big NOOOOOOOOOOOO!. Do not let Midas or another shop like this do your struts. You want a Saab mechanic that knows about possible bearing, mount, washer, and zinc plate wear. You want someone who can look at these parts and see by eye that they are in need of replacement. >First off, does this sound resonable? No. That's way too much for KYB's. Check the parts cost at tirerack. >I have never done any type of >work on vehicles like this, and would be reluctant to try it myself OK on the fronts. You can do the rears in the driveway with limited tools and no jack. >because the above mentioned price includes an alignment too. OK... but you should have the alignment for a Saab done somewhere that they have the latest Hunter equipment. NTB is good for this if they have locations near you. >Doing research on the web I have come accross positive reviews on >Billstein and KYB. Anybody here want to give me their five cents >worth? Bilsteins are great but _not_ adjustable. You get the ride you get. KYB does not have a good reputation with most Saabers. I've been disapointed by the ride control whenever I've used them in other cars. They are probably as good as OEM. I rec Adjustable Koni's. You can get the parts for all 4 corners for about $550 from Tirerack.com. Highly recommended. You dial in the ride you want. Amazingly, they improve both ride and handling, usually two opposing concepts. I can't say enough good things about them. Installation of the fronts will be about $150 from an independent Saab mechanic. The rears will be cheap if you decide to pay to have them done. The NG900 had issues with the upper strut mounts - if you need them they will be about $100 more per side and you need to do both sides. There's no additional labor since they get removed when the struts are disassembled. There are some misc other parts that I mentioned above like the washers and plates (under $10) and the bearings ($33 per side as needed). I'll repeat that I definitely think you should have someone who knows Saabs do this work. Bob
