I can be cruising in second gear at 3000rpm, punch the accelerator, and not much happens for over 1.5 seconds. Then it slams you into the seat. > But I have heard claims about how they have eliminated most of the > turbo lag over the years. Not true? That's what I'd heard too. It's not true for my Aero, nor for the other 2 Aeros I tried driving after I bought my car and realized how annoying the delay was. The lag is much longer than my other 2 turbo Saabs, and the pre-boost to post-boost jump in power is MUCH larger, which makes it much harder to manage. Once the turbo finally spins up, there's LOTS of torque, but the long lag and the sudden big jump in power make it hard to drive smoothly. The torque is only there 2sec after you tromp on the gas, never when you're driving normally. As I said, my father's larger car, with auto transmission and a 3.8L V6, routinely gets 35mpg. I would think Saab could do better than 28. > no car can deliver full power when starting from around 1000rpm. I didn't say it should. It's the delay at ANY rpm that bothers me. > IMHO a turbo engine is the best you can have. it gives you lots of > power when you need it, Not mine. It gives me lots of power 2 seconds AFTER I need it. Gary
