Subject: Questions for a REAL Saab expert: ACC

Ok, my bet is that I'm not going to get many replies to this question, if any at all. I just disassembled my '93 9000's ACC unit, to clean some sticky junk from the front panel buttons because they were sticking. It's all back together and working fine, but while I had the unit apart I noticed that there was an extra button, located below the "^" and "v" temperature control buttons. That extra button is covered by a blank plate on the front panel, and it's front is hollow, but I also noticed that there appears to be a microswitch underneath that button just like all the "real" buttons, and that switch does seem to have circuitry related to it. I.e. it appears that if the button were exposed and accessible from the front panel, it would definitely do something in the circuitry. So, my questions for the real Saab experts out there are: what is this button for, why is it covered up in my car, and should I uncover it? BTW, I checked my owner's manual and it doesn't show or mention the button: all pictures of the ACC unit show the "blank" plate, which is what I have. Thanks in advance for any info.
