I think I have something to offer.. Two previous owners of my '89 9000cd (which I think shares much of the sensor system with the 900) finally gave up in despair so that I bought my little orphan for $1,800(cnd) with exactly the same problem you describe - and two torn lower motor mounts a broken rear engine brace, absolutely no rust and LOTS of fresh ignition, turbo and injector parts.. It turned out that the distributor oil seal was leaking ever so slightly so that a small (almost invisible) line of oil would build on the bottom of the rotor and ground out the lower spark plug lead when the case pressure came up a bit (like stepping on the throttle) and the fuel management system would cut the fuel off thinking a piston had gone dead.. Making it buck so badly that it caused the damage outlined above.. I picked up for new EGR valve and several other vacuum system parts trying to fix it myself before it was tracked down.. Once the engine was shut off, the film would quickly dry up (leaving your standard grunge) and the ground would disappear and the bucking would go away.. Indeed - it didn't happen all the time either - but it was worse on hot days when the engine temp went up and the seal/spark plug cap at the rotor got soft.. Sooo - while it may be a whole lot of things - like the APC controller and several other sensor problems as suggested - I am starting to look for simple things like minor seals and ignition wires getting old first these days.. Clean up the rotor - take your beast for a hot run and then quickly pop the hood and run a clean paper towel under the rotor to see if you are wet there.. Then check the lower spark plug lead to see if there is any oil in the cap.. It surprised the heck out of me when my man here in Halifax NS (Tom MacDonnell and staff). worked it out.. I haven't told the previous owners and probably won't given the work they put in trying to track it down.. -- J Dexter - webmaster - http://www.dexterdyne.org/ all tunes - no cookies no subscription no weather no ads no news no phone in - RealAudio 8+ Required - all the Time Radio Free Dexterdyne Top Tune o'be-do-da-day Kurt Swinghammer - You Turn Me On - I' a Radio http://www.dexterdyne.org/888/136.RAM
