The parts belong to the crankcase ventilation system. During normal engine operation some unburnt fuel vapor and other gasses manages to escape the combustion chambers into the crankcase. These gasses should not be allowed to polute environment and the crankcase ventilation systems job is therefore to evacuate these gasses and feed them to the engine to be burnt. The evacuation is through the thin hose with the white valve (not filter) on it, it leads directly into the inlet manifold, when there is a low pressure in the inlet manifold (any time the engine is running, except when the turbo is producing pressure). The white valve prevents the air going the other direction when the turbo is producing pressure. The "plastic part" just attached to the valve cover using a rubber gasket. It is just pushed in and is only held in place by the rubber. If the rubber gasket gets damaged (or doesn't hold the "plastic part" in place it can be replaced easily. The white valve may break and allow pressurized air from the turbo to enter the crankcase via the valve cover. This is not good as it can force oil out of the engine and cause blue smoke. This has been a problem with early 9-5 engines. The whive valve in the 9-5 looked just like your valve but was later replaced by a stronger valve about 20 mm in diameter. The valve can easily be tested by disconnecting the hoses and then blowing air from either end. The valve should only let air through in one direction (as shown by the arrow on the valve body). The valve should be mounted with the arrow pointing away from the black valve cover (with the "plastic part") and towards the blank aluminium/aluminum intake manifold. > It is not properly fixed on my engine. Of course (hopefully !) I can't > remove it but it is moving easily and there is a few blot (oil , water > ....grease ?) around it. It is normal for it to move around a bit, so it is hard for me to say if it is "not properly fixed" or not. As long as it doesn't leak it should be ok. A few drops of oil is probably not a problem. Hope this helps. -- G–ran Larsson http://www.nospam.com/saab/
