Well - Ok - I think the best bet might be to look at swapping in fresh parts - but for a non-ABS system - or trying to track down a rust victim somewhere and taking your chances.. Lord knows there are a lot of old 9000's finally starting to turn up in the breaker yards.. HAH - probably because of ABS failure I suppose.. Personally - I will be going for the non-ABS SAAB system as I always admired my 900 under braking without ABS.. They are not the sames cars - but then I am not the same driver.. However, like I said - braking is such an important business - that any advise I am providing should be considered completely lame and useless unless you can find a wrench you trust who will agree it's possible and that he will do it. Whoever is asking those other figures is either a dealer or service partner trying to get the last dollars out before the papers come from Opel about 'new horizons' in his dealership - or operating out of Montreal somewhere.. :) .. Oddly the braking system on a SAAB (ABS or otherwise) seems fairly straight forward and relatively unchanging between the years.. It's almost like the dash - slight design twists - but most of the business parts seem to work between years - sometimes between lines.. I dropped a 1977 '99 engine in a 1984 900 which ran until it dropped the automatic tranny in 1993 when I put in a 4 speed.. Great machine until it got run over by a 3 ton.. Wire up your horn to work with the key out if you think of it sometime.. Anyway - I think whatever you do - you should shop around for parts and perhaps talent.. My local dealer' part man handed me a old parts CD update for the 9000 when I asked if he knew where I could get a shop manual.. Very friendly bunch actually - considering I haven't used them in a while.. Anyway - a braking system is a breaking system largely.. Most good mechanics should be able to work it out.. Just stay away from the "Muffler - Shocks - Brakes" joints if you can. The "Brakes" part is where the franchise owner picks up his money for the annual South Sea's cruise in my experience.. -- J Dexter - webmaster - http://www.dexterdyne.org/ all tunes - no cookies no subscription no weather no ads no news no phone in - RealAudio 8+ Required - all the Time Radio Free Dexterdyne Top Tune o'be-do-da-day 54-40 - Casual Viewing http://www.dexterdyne.org/888/114.RAM
