The check engine light will come on when under gas because there is a difference in the amount of O2 in the exhaust between gas and petrol, in as much as the ECU sees the wrong readings than it should, as it thinks it's running on petrol. Not sure about the 9000, but the 9-3/9-5 you are able to tell the ecu it's running on gas. Not sure if you can with the 9000, though.
