I can't explain specifically why it's not a good idea, but here is a link to an article which explains how the Saab engine management system uses the spark plug as a critical sensor to measure what is going on inside the combustion chambers. With the complexity of all of this, changing something as critical as the main sensors is probably a bad idea. http://www.vehicular.isy.liu.se/~larer/Projects/main.html This is a newer engine than your 9000 has, but the DI system was engineered for the specific spark plug that Saab says to use - changing to a different one would have no benefit at all.
