When you first started posting and expressing an interest in Saabs, one of the undercurrent points of advice was to spend as little as you could to get a reasonably basic model and see how it goes. Once you have a feel for the car and get bitten, you'll get to know the intricacies of the model and what to look out for. Keeping an eye on the market and looking out for "that" car that you'd want to spend your Grandmother's pension on while owning a bit of a banger is all part of the fun. Since Aeros in the UK (of almost any age) are rising to around 3000 UKP for a "good one", I think you got a gem and a little TLC will keep your car very happy. I think we prepped you well and you seemed to have enough know-how and adventurous spirit to get a good one to start with. I think the one you have is a good one to do up internally if you can find the leather. It certainly looks good from the photographs and so long as the engine is generally sound, it'll go on for a good while yet. The price was a snip and it'll be a great car, so long as you "keep up to it" with the usual service issues. Believe it or not, my Inga was a real gem when I got it but I haven't kept up to it mechanically and the bodywork has suffered as well. It could be done up with, say, 500 UKP or so, but I can't really justify it. I love the flat nose shape and it will be a shame to scrap the beast, but I'd rather use the good parts of the car to keep better Saabs on the road. It was a real struggle keeping two classic 900s alive. After my first 900 turbo, the injection was a real surprise - it can't quite keep up with a boosting 900, but catches up pretty quick. BTW Carl, have you got the snow over your way? I had to make a hard swerve around a BMW 730 today that went sideways. My heart was in my mouth, but the old Slaab took over for me - I had to laugh on the way past. Further down the road, more action with a bus and a Clio that had no idea what to do with snow stuck into the front of it. The rest of the journey was stuck in a jam between and 9-5 and a Volvo S70 - safest place to be, eh? It should be nice'n'icy tomorrow, so more Saabing fun :) Paul 1985 900i 16V 1989 900 Turbo S http://pjgh.go.dyndns.org/saab/index.html
