I have/had two 900 V-6's -- once you get past the 30K timing belt changes (covered under warranty until 100K if combined with a major service), the engines are good ones. Mine use/used (one of mine was just totalled by son two weeks ago with 69K miles on it) a quart of oil every 1,500 - 2,000 miles, and have been very reliable. Service tends to be expensive (what Saab isn't?). The V-6's pull hard from low rpm, and mine averaged 23+ mpg at 100+ mph, up to 27 mpg at 70 mph (I spent 4 years in Germany and drove one of them over 3,000 miles in excess of 100 mph). Make sure the timing belts have been changed according to the manufacturer's schedule if you buy one, and if not, I'd have it done before signing the purchase agreement (the V-6's are interference engines, and you're looking at repair costs more than the car may be worth if the belt fails).
