That bike was awesome with the only downside of being a bit buzzy (compared to the boxer twins) at cruising speed. It was really most comfortable at over 85 mph. Then a few years ago I picked up a 15 year old 325iC (cabrio) with 120kmi on it. After driving and working on that car I have become convinced that they are some of the finest cars available. I subsequently traded my '87 (after I had done a lot of work to it) for a '95 with > 90k mi. As you can see with the age of the cars I am buying, I am not one looking for a status symbol... > > Wouldn't catch me dead in any of their cars newer than the 2002 (model, not > year). They may be stereotypes, but they're powerful. Yes, that seems to be the big hang-up. A lot of people just can't get past the stereotype one way or another. There are definitely a large number of people that buy BMWs (and SAABs for that matter) only for the status. OTOH there are a lot of people that really understand what they are and buy them for what they are, superior engineered cars. My main point is, if someone has never owned a particular brand, why would you be so vehemently opposed to it? If a few of the people that are dissing BMWs so bad here took one out for a drive (even an older one like mine) I think they would be of a different opinion. But hey, as my Dad used to say, "That's why they have horse races..."
