Subject: Re: use fossil or synthetic oil?

I believe the 2000 9-5 has a turbo. These are not cheap to replace. These also spin fast enough to glow red hot - at these temperatures the synthetics are worthwhile. I still drive a 21 year old 245 turbo - Mobil1 from day one. Synthetic every 5K miles cost about $20 for oil and $5 for the filter. "Dino Lube" at say, $10 for oil and $5 for the filter every 3K. You would save nothing in 15K miles (15K/5K = 3 synthetic oil changes at $25 = $75), (15K/3K = 5 Dino oil changes at $15 = $75). So, for argument sake, you get Dino oil at $1 /qt - you save $25 every 15K miles - but only if you change the oil yourself. If you pay someone, the labor cost can make using the dino oil more expensive.
