Salutations: Well - the stuff you have under that link is kinda of my point - if you have a good one you have a great one.. If you have a bad one - you'll never be able to fix it and it will bleed you dry trying to was, I think, the common theme.. I spoke with the current owner today and they still feel strongly that their dead 1992 9000T is still worth well in excess of $1,000.. Which I still take as being in denial and am still politely offering $500.. My hope is to mate the best parts of two cars and end up with s nice frankin-saab for me and mine.. To refresh the thread here - I have a '89 CD 9000T with a strong engine, tranny and turbo (but 310.000km) as well as a fair and honest wrench master to do an powertrain/ignition transplant.. The interior on the 89 is badly rotted, the body is starting to rust in bad spots and the suspension (except for a pair of new rear springs) is getting pretty bad.. The brakes and rotors are also pretty fresh.. I have come across a nicely repainted (I checked - done properly - no steel wool anywhere) 1992 9000T CSE with a rebuilt 2.3 (90,000km ago) - but - a murdered tranny, snapped turbo header (at the flange) and cracked windshield with a great interior but with some minor electrical/window problems.. They think the engine is a peach - I think they may have nudged the head or the manifold when the header got cracked off the flange.. It looks for all the world like the owner hit the engine/tranny on a frost heave somewhere at speed - but then drove it around for week with a broken auto tranny line so that the tranny/diff is now pretty much a boat anchor.. The cast iron header is snapped off at the flange and the exhaust system behind that is pretty much cheese.. It moves, but it sounds exactly like my grocery store coffee grinder moving around and an AK47 at idle.. What I am thinking about is transplanting the turbo/engine/tranny/ignition from the 89 (a non-DI unit) to the 1992 with fresh mounts and exhaust - fixing and crating the 2.3 for future use and hunting around for a five speed box/dif or acceptable 1992 derelict with the tranny right parts and swapping the power train back in a couple of years when the venerable 2.0 finally gives up the ghost.. There is a wide and considerable difference of opinion for and against this plan depending on who you speak with.. My parts man in the Carolina's see's this a no serious pwob other than TCS.. My wrench figures it's not as much a pwob as slightly time consuming as he will have to work out the wiring.. He's been very good to me through a couple of cars now and I trust that if he says $1,000 to do the transplant - a $1,000 is likely what it will be.. The TCS has everyone scratching their head - I'm thinking about dropping in the brake system from the 1989 outright.. My post here hasn't generated much traffic - which surprises me - but the idea seems reasonable enough to some and the path of disaster to others.. I did exactly the same thing using a 1979 99 engine in a 1985 900 back in the 80/90's and was exceptionally pleased (I loved the four speed manual - it was like a tractor for decades literally).. I think the current owners (Halifax Nova Scotia Canada BTW - in case they turn to on e-bay to sell this car) are somewhat taken aback at my $500 cash offer - I think I being very fair given that they are currently looking at the better part of $7,000 to put it back together as it sits.. Perhaps I am not being nice, in which case what would the NG think is a fair price? Anyway - I'm now watching the sparrows crap on my CD after using the feeder out back - thanks my feathered friends it works great and it's paid for - the cat will be out shortly.. Please - if anyone out there has any further thoughts or considerations - post them in.. -- J Dexter - webmaster - http://www.dexterdyne.org/ all tunes - no cookies no subscription no weather no ads no news no phone in - RealAudio 8+ Required - all the Time Radio Free Dexterdyne Top Tune o'be-do-da-day The Cadillacs - Speedo http://www.dexterdyne.org/888/165.RAM "Henrik B." wrote: > > Andy wrote: > :: Before you upgrade to a 92 9000 please read this: > :: > <LINK> > > A lot of rubbish, and....? > > Cheers!
