Subject: Orca - She's back ...

I picked up the beast this morning and he's beautiful, no really beautiful. She drives great and hits top boost (just past 3/4 the way up the yellow part of the gauge) and I even got one red zone before it snapped back. There are a couple of little niggles though, which I'll be ironing out presently :) 1. Orca must have eaten a duck (heads up Meatball), because she makes a quiet quack when first fired up. There's no sound after that, so something to keep an eye on there. 2. [See above] The PSI gauge measuring oil pressure (an added accessory) starts to wander up and down when in slow moving traffic. I don't think it's much to worry about, but indicative of a vac leak perhaps? I'll be re-doing all the vac piping, grommets and possibly the reservoir cannister. 3. There is a slight oil leak at the end of the rocker cover above number 1 cylinder, leaking down the side of the case. Are rocker gaskets a big deal? I don't have a torque wrench (which I believe is necessary), so I'll most likely entrust this to my garage. If I was to buy the necessary equipment, what's the best way of going about replacing the gasket? Short of taking the old one off and putting the new one one :) What sealant is best? I have the Haynes procedure to work from when replacing and torque-ing the bolts. 4. There's a lot of oil in the charge hose leading to the intercooler. I'll follow recently posted advice about that one and clean the intercooler as well. The pipe is plastic and starting to collapse. I know there are metal pipes - does anyone have a part number or a source of such a pipe in the UK? Once these bits are done, she'll be top notch. The paint job is excellent - you really wouldn't know it's the same car :) I've had new discs & pads on the front and new pads on the rear in with the price. Cheers all, Paul 1985 900i 16V 1989 900 Turbo S (Reborn) http://saab.go.dyndns.org/
