My suggestion is that you try putting a piece of aluminum foil in front of the radiator. I had the same problem with my 1996 900 SE, and this low-tech fix seems to work well. Presumably the radiator grill of a 9000 snaps out easily, as does that on a 900 SE, allowing easy access to the radiator. I don't know what would be the cost of replacing the thermostat, but if other Saab repair bills are anything to go by, it would be much more than what I am used to paying for a thermostat replacement.
