It sounds like it's cracked, which is often done by overtightening the plug. > almost as if someone had taken a tool to it, > seems to me it had to be done while the plug was off, > but I dunno. > If its a crack, I'm worried, what would be the best thing: > take it to a welder ? Welding it is almost out of the question. Welding aluminium is hard at the best of times. Welding an aluminium tranny case full of oil is a definite no-no. You'd have to remove and dismantle to weld. Your best bet is to clean it up well (use meths to get rid of all signs of oil), then use some epoxy resin (JB Weld works nicely) to repair the crack, glueing the plug in place. All future oil changes will have to be done through the dip stick tube (that's how I do all mine anyway, much cleaner than doing it from underneath). -- Grunff
