I'm tempted to say that it's so people don't do that, and something about evaporative emissions, but I don't think I can pull that one off without losing it. More likely it just causes some pressure imbalance in the system - a certain characteristic is expected, and the air leak (loose cap) throws things off. Dave Hinz > tom --
