Subject: MOT Failed

Took it in for the MOT today (week early). Got new tyres fitted, because 2 were worn, and all 4 were the wrong size. Failed. Broken Numberplate. (not a biggy). Failed. Left hand size Handbrake inopperative. Got it home, chocked the back wheels, and let the handbrake off, and indeed, it is showing very little movement, and is very stiff. Cable moves freely. Is there anyway to free up the handbrake without removing the caliper form the hub/disconnecting the hydaulics? If I need to disconnect the hydaulics, I might as well replace the caliper, but that is about £100 outright, or £60 exchange for a new one. Also, even though the car has been driving really nicely, including going to the MOT station, when they had taken it off the ramps, and I had paid, I went to press in the clutch and it wouldn't move. Locked solid. A couple of presses, and it moved but was very stiff. Eventually it freed up, and now moves smoothly, but feels lighter than it did, and occasionally it feels rough/clicky again. The only way to describe it is as a crunchy feeling but that has gone too now. Clutch use wasn't affected. -- Carl Robson (The poster formerly known as Skodapilot) http://www.bouncing-czechs.com
